Are you someone who likes to find a bargain price for accommodation? Do you like to read other’s reviews before booking and to leave your own? I have found a great way to not only find accommodation for a great price with reviews all in one spot, but to also make money from your reviews to pay for future accommodation. It’s called Yonderbound.

This new site is a different way to think about booking accommodation. You can book it the traditional way, by searching for a hotel in your destination based on dates, number of people or price, or you can also look through others reviews. How does it all work?

Using Yonderboxes

Well say you want to go to my home town of Melbourne. You can actually look at other people’s recommendations that they have created by using a “Yonderbox”. A Yonderbox is a selection of hotels that users of the site create to share their recommendations, like a list. This is a great way to easily get personal recommendations for the best accommodation choices.

When you search for accommodation, Yonderbound will show you the hotels available in their database as well as relevant Yonderboxes so you can choose how you will find the best choice for you.

Using Yonderboxes to save hotels and make money

You can create your own Yonderboxes both for the purpose of your own planning and to make money.

When you are searching for a hotel, hotels are displayed in a pin like fashion, similar to Pinterest. You can simply click on the heart to save this hotel for later reference. I know that I often go and look at accommodation when we are just considering what destination we might visit as I want to get an idea of how much money we need to budget and what we can get for that money. Then later when I come to actually book something, I have to start over as I don’t know what those original places were. This is a way to save these hotels.

Adding a hotel to a Yonderbox

The other massive bonus of doing this is that if you save them to a Yonderbox that you have created and set to public, then other people can see your lists. If they make a booking from your Yonderbox, then you make a commission, on average 7% of the accommodation cost, to spend on your next booking. It is very quick and easy to make these boxes.

For example, if you searched for Penang, you will see a list of hotels and the relevant Yonderboxes, like you can see in the screenshot below. If someone clicks through to my yonderbox and makes a booking, then I receive a commission. It’s that simple. Creating them when planning can actually save you time and make you money. I love it!

Are the hotels a good price?

The prices compare very well. I looked at the prices of hotels for our upcoming trip to Langkawi using both Yonderbound and Agoda (my previous favourite booking engine for Asia) and was surprised to find that most hotels were actually cheaper on Yonderbound. If you make your own comparison, remember that Yonderbound prices automatically are shown with all taxes and charges. Many other sites do not show you this initially.

Getting Started and using Yonderbox

The first thing you need to do is sign up – use this link. It is quick and easy and you can use your Facebook account or an email address.

You can then search for hotels like you normally would – enter in the city, dates and how many people. You will then be shown hotels that meet your requirements all laid out as tiled pins or on a map. I like that you can see both the star rating and the TripAdvisor rating from this one screen.

From here, you can also do extensive filtering on price, ratings and facilities. You can also filter on “freebies” such as breakfast and free internet. You can also see others’ Yonderboxes.

If you like the look of the hotel, you can click the heart to add it to your Yonderboxes. You can then return to it later or others can use it to make their own bookings (and you get a commission!).

When you are ready to book, it is very simple to do so – simply click on the hotel and fill in your details.

My verdict

I have only recently started using Yonderbound but I am already a big fan. I love how easy it is to save Yonderboxes of my favourite hotels, I can see myself using this for all travel planning in the future. I also love the fact that the work I have done for my travel planning can help others and also earn me a little money on the side.

I also like that you can follow other people to see their recommendations. I am starting to do this with a group of friends that like to travel. It is a very easy way to get personal recommendations from people I trust and I know have similar travel priorities to myself.
