Playa Maria la Gorda is a beautiful beach located a few hours from Vinales in the far west of Cuba. There are lots of palm trees, beautiful white sand and clear blue water. Exactly what you might imagine when you picture a Caribbean beach. We had a two night stop here on our Cuba tour.
The resort
The resort is just great, right on the beach. They certainly put us in a relaxing mood with our welcome drinks – Cuba Libres (rum and coke) of course!
We all have small private cabins that are great. They come with a/c, hot water bathrooms, cable TV and fridges, so I am very happy! Drinks here are quite pricey so we had stocked up on the way. They did have a great restaurant with yummy pizzas.
Hanging out
We had a great couple of days. It started with Gail giving us a mojito making lesson. Lots of fun and we came out of it with some yummy cocktails. Win-win!
We hung out at the beach. The water is gorgeous. It’s pretty and a great temperature. I spent quite awhile in there which was a mistake as I ended up quite burnt! It was very frustrating. Like Charlotte said, every time she saw me I was putting sun cream on and I kept covered up, except when I was in the water. So much for water resistant suncream!
Most of our time was spent reading and chatting in the beach lounge chairs. About the only break we took from lounging on the beach was to eat.
On our second evening, we wanted to do the Sunset Party Cruise. We were all set to go with snorkeling equipment and everything before they decided to cancel it as there was a storm on the way. We were disappointed but it was ok. We all had lots of rum and coke and so we could our own party!
I am having such a great time. Cuba is awesome. People are so friendly, it is beautiful and my tour and tour mates are fantastic. I am loving it here!
