Havana Vieja (the old part of Havana) is a stunning, wonderful place to visit. It was my favourite thing to do in Havana (you can read many more things to do in Havana in that link!).
I spent a day exploring Havana Vieja (the old part of Havana). I was astounded by how lovely this place is, it was not at all what I had imagined.
I walked around many plazas and winding streets that reminded me more of Spain than any I have seen in Latin America. Still, it is nothing like Europe. The vibe is completely different and even in a gorgeous plaza surrounded with gorgeous restored buildings, there will still be one that is falling apart. It certainly gives it a lot of character.
I had lunch at a great place in the middle of things and ended up having a three course set meal which I really didn’t want but I was so in awe of the area that I couldn’t think straight! It was cheap at least.
I spent most of the day checking out colourful walkways and buildings. I also went to the top of the Camara Oscura where I could see out over the city. This cost 2 pesos, but otherwise I didn’t spend money on anything. There are museums everywhere for everything you can think of from the birthplace of Jose Marti to rum or chocolate.
There is also plenty of shops and a cute market selling every Cuban souvenir you could want.
Old Havana is a must see on any Cuban trip.
