We were very excited to finally land in Stockholm on our flight from Bangkok to start our European adventure. We couldn’t have picked a better place to start – Stockholm far exceeded any expectation we had. It is not only a beautiful city, but incredibly family friendly. Perhaps the most family friendly destination we have visited.
What has made it even better is staying a great family friendly hotel right in the centre of things. This hotel fast become one of my favourite hotels for families thanks to extras such as gifts on arrival for the kids, a playroom and, my personal favourite, strollers to borrow.

Scandic Sergel Plaza Review
The thing that first attracted me to this hotel is the location. It really cannot be beat in terms of being central and convenient. From here, we were moments from the central shopping strip as well as a metro station, buses and trams. We were able to walk within 5 minutes to transportation that would take us directly to everywhere we wanted to visit in Stockholm. It is also only a short walk to Gamla Stan.
Despite being so central, it is also very quiet. It is located on a very quiet street just off the main roads, and I never heard a sound from anywhere the whole time we were in our room.
There is so much more to this hotel than the location though. On check in, it felt like an ordinary business hotel. That was until the kids were given colouring books and pencils and we spotted the playroom.
The playroom is great. It’s two small rooms with a cubby house, table and chairs, play kitchen, car mat and other toys. The kids loved having a play in here and its conveniently located next to the restaurant so it would be easy for the kids to play here while you enjoyed a stress free meal.
However, my favourite feature was definitely the strollers. There are strollers available for families to borrrow. As a family who is reluctantly travelling without a stroller at present, this was perfect. We borrowed one each day to push around Mr 3, and we were able to explore far more of Stockholm than we could have without it.
Breakfast was also great. There is a good range of cereals, museli ingredients, cheeses, sliced meats, breads, fruit, hot food, pancakes – everything we could need really. It was so good to eat some great bread and other foods that we were used to in Australia after 6 months in Asia.
Where this breakfast really distinguished itself though was in the Gluten free area and the alternatives to cow’s milk. Z and I don’t drink cows milk, and it was great having soy and oat milk options. There were breads, museli and some other options that were gluten free.
The hotel also has a small gym, fantastic internet and essential toiletry and food items for sale.
Our room
Our room was perfect for a family.
We had a queen size bed and a fold out sofa bed which looked queen size. This worked well as we had plenty of space during the day and then beds for all of us at night.
The room is older style but it was nice and cosy with everything we needed like plenty of space for our bags, safe, bar fridge, bath tub, cable TV and tea and coffee making facilities.
The kids
The kids enjoyed our stay at this hotel. They liked the playroom, the colouring in books and they loved having a stroller again. This was a great way to ease them into full time travel again and to relax after the long flight.
Our verdict
We felt very welcome at this hotel and had a great stay. Everything was great from the room to the breakfast to the family friendly amenities.
The location was particularly a win for us. We were only in Stockholm for a short time so being able to get around everywhere easily made life so much easier. It was also great to just walk out the hotel doors and already be somewhere with plenty of food options and a supermarket within moments. There was also international food tents set up just nearby during our stay – it was interesting to visit the Australian tent!
If you are looking for a central, family friendly hotel in Stockholm, I strongly recommend the Scandic Sergel Plaza. We would definitely come back here.
