This trip to Tasmania we were determined to get out there and see more of the state, and not just spend time with family. The first destination on our list? Port Arthur. Once we decided this, I went on a mission to find the best family accommodation for us and that is when I stumbled upon the Lufra Hotel and Apartments – and I am very glad I did!
The Lufra Hotel and Apartments is located in Eaglehawk Neck – the point where the Tasman peninsula begins about 15 minutes from the Port Arthur Historic Site. It is a short walk from the Tessellated Pavement, the Officers Quarters and the Dog Line (more information about these attractions to come!) and close to everything this area of Tasmania has to offer, including whacky Doo Town just a few minutes away. You can read our top 8 things to do on the Tasman Peninsula.

Our apartment
We stayed in a two bedroom self contained apartment, and it was just stunning. The first thing I noticed was the views – how great is this…
In addition, there were two good sized bedrooms, an open plan kitchen/dining/lounge room and a big bathroom with a big spa bath. The kitchen had everything we could need including a dishwasher and a combined washing machine/dryer and nice extras such as washing powder, cling wrap, a vacuum cleaner and gowns. We cooked dinner in our apartment without a problem. Bottled water is supplied.
The whole apartment was very bright and airy with floor to ceiling windows in the lounge room. I worried it might be cold with such big windows, but the heating was fantastic.
If you don’t need a two bedroom apartment or you want a more economical option, there are also studio apartments and hotel rooms, including hotel rooms suitable for families.
The facilities at Lufra Hotel and Apartments
In addition to great accommodation, the Lufra Hotel and Apartments also has a restaurant, cafe, bar and bottle shop. There is wifi internet access. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful and can provide maps and other information about the region.
Food
We ate at the Lufra’s restaurant for the Sunday seafood buffet, and I urge others to do the same. One of my favourite parts of a Tasmanian holiday is the delicious seafood and there was a lot on offer at this lunch. It is popular, so make sure you make a reservation.
The kids?
The kids loved our stay here. There was plenty of room to stretch out and for the first time they had a TV in their room which was a massive hit and gave us a chance for a break after a long day and night travelling to the Lufra Hotel and Apartments from Melbourne.
Our verdict?
The kids were not the only ones who love it here.
It is a fabulous spot and the apartments are just beautiful. It is quiet and had everything we needed to self cater which is something we find important. We particularly loved the views, the lunch was just delicious and the cafe, with its great views and big, comfy couches, looked like a fabulous place to stop on the way to or from Port Arthur even if you aren’t staying overnight. All in all, we were very happy with our stay here and would not hesitate to return.
